85 NEW WAVE WITH NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF CHINA

This project is located at the National Art Museum of China, which witnesses and represents the beginning of Chinese contemporary art-85 New Wave. However, no one shows any interest in it nowadays because The exhibitions at the museum mostly serve political purposes. Thus few young people will visit here.

The 85 New Wave Movement refers to the art movement that happened in China in the mid-1980s which was characterized by modernism. It was a period when the development of debate creations and art exhibitions reached a peak. They oppose to the conservative art disciplines and advocate individualism and freedom of creation. Not only did they object to imitating traditional arts, but they also abandoned the creative disciplines of socialist realism. Instead, they replaced them with art movements of western modernism and postmodernism.

National Art Museum of China is the witness and participant of the 85 New Wave Movement. It underwent the situations of reject and accept and reject again. It portrayed a space that was closed and open and closed again. The avant-garde artists attempted to overturn the official image of the National Art Museum of China. Meanwhile, the National Art Museum of China once portrayed a huge sense of inclusiveness and avant-garde. National Art Museum of China and 85 New Wave Movement are inseparable.

My design recreates the 85 New Wave event that took place in the gallery to give people a more comprehensive understanding of the gallery and thus increase the number of visitors.
